On the afternoon of Friday the 9th May 2025 we celebrated Europe Day at Raatihuoneentori stage. Below you’ll find a photo reportage of the event. The photographs are by Bijoy B. Sarkar.
The event started with a question and answer session with Merja Kyllönen, a member of the European Parliament from Suomussalmi, moderated by the day’s host, Paavo Haverinen. Questions could be submitted to Merja in advance online, but the audience could also ask some on site.
Kainuu is multicultural. New Kainuu residents, a.k.a. new Europeans, have also arrived from further away. The event featured a series of multicultural cultural performances prepared by these new Kainuu residents, but also offered more traditional Kainuu culture.
At the end of the event, prizes were awarded to the winners of the drawing competition for immigrant children organized on May 4, 2025 with the theme “My new life in Europe.” Five children were awarded by age group.
