During 2021 Northern Axis – Barents Link project will arrange several interactive webinars, about 2 hours long each, mainly around the development of the east-west transport corridor and taking in account rapidly changing operational environment and trends in transport and logistics of the Barents Region. The first webinar will take place on 19th May 2021.
Northern Axis – Barents Link project (NABL) aims to develop east -west transport corridor and cross-border mobility in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. The project is being implemented in two years with the support of the Kolarctic 2014-2020 EU-Russian Cross Border Cooperation Programme. The project activities are exploring the potential of the main transport infrastructure in the border areas alongside the Northern Axis – Barents Link transport corridor. The project is expected to identify the bottlenecks of the transport corridor further harmonizing Northern Axis – Barents Link development.
Project activities include several road and railroad studies across the transport corridor, a study on wind energy potential and low-flight civil aviation between Northern Finland and Russia. In addition, project has a study on the impacts of diversification of road & rail freight and passenger transport on the Vartius/Lytta border crossing.

The main objectives of the first seminar are:
- to give a more holistic picture of the operational environment, defining links between the Arctic, the Barents and Northern Dimension to global.
- to have a look on Barents Regional Council and its role in the multilateral cross-border cooperation
- to understand the Barents Euro-Arctic Region transport and logistics system and its current status as well as future development needs
