The Discover Barents Photography Competition 2023 has been opened on March 23rd 2023. The main goal of the competition is to develop and strengthen cross-border cooperation between Finland, Sweden and Norway in the Barents region and increase its visibility.
The theme of the 2023 competition is the circular economy in the Barents region. Submit-ted photographs can highlight activities related to the circular economy (focus on people and items), but also nature photography is acceptable, as long as it is connected to the theme. The photographer decides the subject of the photograph through inspiration of their own creativity, but the theme must relate to the circular economy.
The competition is organised through a circular economy project supporting the Finnish Presidency of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. The project is called “Journey of Plastics in the Barents Region”. The project is managed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. The competition is open for participation to all with an interest in photography within the countries involved (Finland, Sweden and Norway). The competition ends on July 23rd 2023. The winners are announced on October 23rd – 24th in Joensuu, North Karelia, Finland.
